Overview
This one-day intensive course is intended as an introduction for those with little experience or exposure to bronchoscopy. It is aimed at paediatric medical nursing teams in acute respiratory medicine and critical care.
The purpose is to provide medical participants the building blocks to be involved in supervised procedures in real patients. Nursing participants will gain knowledge and insight of the role of focussed bronchoscopy and safety steps in the critical care setting.
This course will cover basic principles in flexible bronchoscopy in critical care settings in children, with emphasis on simulated scenarios, patient safety and team working.
Topics include:
- Equipment and technical skills practice in range of models
- Patient safety and monitoring
- Indications and contraindications
- Anatomical findings (normal/abnormal)
- Bronchoalveolar lavage / sampling
- Management of complications
- Applied practice in simulated scenarios
Approved by RCoA for 6 CPD points.
Who is it for?
ST5+ to consultants in paediatric intensive care medicine / anaesthesia / paediatric respiratory medicine
Senior critical care nurses and advanced nurse practitioners in paediatric respiratory medicine / intensive care as allied members of the bronchoscopy team
