Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust holds Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licences in four sectors:
- research
- post-mortem
- human application (i.e. tissues and cells for patient treatment)
- organ donation and transplant
In order to maintain these licences, all staff involved with removing, storing or using human tissue must be aware of and comply with the HTA’s requirements, including:
- complying with legislation including the Human Tissue Act 2004 and the Human Tissue (Quality and Safety for Human Application) Regulations 2007
- acting in accordance with the HTA’s codes of practice
- meeting the HTA’s licensing standards
- complying with any directions issued by the HTA
- taking action as the result of a HTA regulatory alert
- periodic inspection of our premises and documentation by the HTA
