Clinical nurse specialist
Andrea Collins
The syncope service at Royal Brompton Hospital was established in 2011 to care for patients with transient loss of consciousness.
The service is led by consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist, Dr Tushar Salukhe. Our experienced clinical nurse specialist Andrea is responsible for the day-to-day running of the service and has direct links to other specialities, such as neurology, psychology as well as cardiac electrophysiology. The unit prides itself on its multidisciplinary, patient-centred approach to care for patients with vasovagal syncope.
I am very fortunate to be a patient of Dr Tushar Salukhe and his syncope team at Royal Brompton Hospital. I have nothing but praise for the treatment I have received from everyone over the years.
Syncope is a very annoying and sometimes frightening condition, but they are always there to help me through difficult episodes and always with great kindness.
Previous patient's experience
The service extends to paediatric patients and we enjoy a very close working relationship with our paediatric electrophysiology team.
The service offers referring physicians and patients direct access to the specialist nurses through mobile phone and email. Patients are referred from all over the country either through specialists or from GPs.
Consultations, diagnostic procedures such as tilt testing, ambulatory monitoring and echocardiography can be arranged on site and on a single visit.
I've met and spoken with Andrea on many occasions and have been so grateful for her support and patience.
The preparation and build-up to my hospital stay for the pacemaker procedure was well managed and again with the help and support of the syncope service team felt confident that it would be a good experience...and it was. Thank you so much to all of you!

Harefield Hospital
Dr Salukhe also runs a syncope service at our sister hospital, Harefield, where he is assisted by a cardiac physiologist.
