The critical care outreach service is a nurse-led team that provides outreach cover 12 hours a day, every day. 

The team aims:

  • to avert ICU admissions by reviewing all patients leaving ITU or cardiac recovery. It uses the NEWS track-and-trigger system to highlight deteriorating patients
  • to facilitate ICU discharges, by providing follow-up and services such as satellite haemofiltration
  • to share critical care skills with teaching, study days and support
