Heart attack centre

Harefield's cardiology department has a busy diagnostic and interventional heart attack centre (cardiac angiography service). There are four cath labs in total, completing approximately 5,000 procedures every year.

The cardiac procedures are mainly performed by cardiologists at Harefield Hospital with sessions by visiting cardiologists from: 

  • Hillingdon Hospital
  • Lister Hospital
  • the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital 
  • the Wycombe Hospital.

Harefield Hospital's heart attack centre delivers this expert treatment in record time. While the national average is 42 minutes, Harefield Hospital has one of the shortest door to balloon times in the UK at just 27 minutes.

"Taken in by paramedics at 3.45am with sudden heart attack. By 4.30am primary angioplasty completed by on call consultant who had come in from their home.
