Advanced practitioner
Dermot Richards-Scully
The advanced practitioner works as part of the junior medical team and provides pre- and post-procedural care/management for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures, including:
- Angiography
- Angioplasty
- Pacing procedures
- Anti-hypertensive procedures, such as ROX and renal denervation
- Structural procedures, such as MitraClip
The services provided by the interventional cardiology advanced practitioner include:
- Clinical pre- and post-procedural management of patients' care requirements
- Medication advice and titration of secondary prevention medicines
- Assessment for procedures
- Organising further investigations as required
- Post-procedural discharge management.
- Monitoring adverse incidents pertaining to procedures: haematoma, pseudo-aneurysm and retroperitoneal bleeding
- Providing teaching in the clinical environment for staff and patients
