Biography

Dr Sohaib Nazir is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and clinical senior lecturer at King’s College London.

Dr Nazir trained at Imperial College London where he graduated with a BSc first class honours in management alongside his medical degree in 2007. He trained at Hammersmith, Charing Cross, Guy’s and St Thomas, King’s College and St George’s Hospitals.

Dr Nazir leads several clinical studies on multimodal imaging, cardio-oncology and coronary artery disease. At King’s College London, his team was awarded with a £13million MRC grant to install one of the UK’s two Total Body PET scanners, to improve diagnosis and treatment for patients.

Areas of expertise

Dr Nazir specialises in all aspects of general adult cardiology such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and general health checks for cardiovascular risk factor modification.

He has a specialist interest in heart failure and cardio-oncology, and is one of the few clinicians in the UK accredited by the International Cardio-Oncology Society, which has also awarded Royal Brompton Hospital with Gold accreditation.

Dr Nazir is trained extensively in a range of advanced cardiac imaging techniques with formal accreditation in:

  • Echocardiography (British Society of Echocardiography)
  • Cardiac MRI (accredited by European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance)
  • Cardiac CT (accredited by European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography).

He also devised several novel techniques using hybrid PET-MRI imaging, developing his expertise in novel technologies and non-invasive medical imaging to help advance patient care.

Dr Nazir is deputy director of the Royal Brompton Hospital Cardio-Oncology Centre of Excellence.
