Biography
Dr Julia Selby is a consultant speech and language therapist for voice, ENT and respiratory services at Royal Brompton Hospital. She joined the multidisciplinary upper airway service at the hospital in March 2014.
Dr Selby treats and supports patients with upper airway disorders, such as chronic cough, inducible laryngeal obstruction/vocal cord dysfunction and other voice box conditions. She also specialises in treatments for patients with more complex speech therapy needs like muscle tension voice disorders and hypersensitivity within the larynx.
Dr Selby holds a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.
In the recent Radio 4 documentary, Virtues of Vulnerability, former Royal Brompton patient Nick Robinson talks about coping with disabilities and difficulties in the public eye. The documentary, presented by Ed Balls, talks to people from sport, politics, business and media, hearing how they have dealt with life’s challenges. Dr Selby worked intensively with Nick to improve his voice, following lung surgery, in 2015. Listen here.
