Biography
Dr Abhishek Narayanan qualified in paediatric medicine in India, and achieved his MD in paediatric medicine and a 2-year fellowship in paediatric intensive care.
After moving to the UK, Dr Narayanan worked as a senior fellow in paediatric intensive care units (PICU) across London including St Mary's Hospital, Children's Acute Transport Service, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Royal Brompton Hospital. He joined Royal Brompton Hospital in March 2017 as a locum consultant, and in February 2018 he became a substantive consultant for the hospital's PICU.
Areas of expertise
Dr Narayanan has expertise in paediatric intensive care including cardiac intensive care. His special interests include:
- managing children on mechanical circulatory support (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- paediatric airway
Teaching
Dr Narayanan is a Royal College tutor, and lead for the paediatric junior doctors’ education and training programme at Royal Brompton Hospital. He is a faculty of the award-winning SPRinT (simulated interprofessional team training) programme.
