Abstract

Advances in pacing and defibrillator technology in recent years, supported by findings of a large number of well-designed, randomised clinical trials have resulted in the increasing application of this technology for the treatment of a variety of cardiac disorders. The result has been a huge increase in the numbers of devices implanted for tachyarrhythmias and bradyarrhythmias, as well as heart failure therapy. As newer implantable devices have acquired increasing functionality, interpretation of their operation has become progressively complex.
