Biography
Dr Nicholas James Lees went to medical school at the University of Leicester. He trained in anaesthesia in London on the Central Thames rotation and in intensive care medicine as part of the pan-London deanery. Dr Lees was awarded his dual certificate of completion of training (CCT) in 2009.
He continued with cardiothoracic specialist training at Papworth Hospital, followed by a year as a locum consultant at St George’s Hospital.
He has accreditation for transoesophageal echo from the British Society of Echocardiography and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.

- the use of transoesophageal echocardiography.
Clinical interests and memberships
Dr Lees’ clinical interests include ECMO, blood conservation and echocardiography. He holds a European Diploma in Intensive Care and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care (UK).
Research and publications
Dr Lees has contributed to a number of original research papers, review articles and book chapters for peer-reviewed publications.
