SMARTER-CM study

The SMARTER-Cardiomyopathy study has been set up to help us understand more about cardiomyopathy; how it’s caused, how it progresses in different people and how it can impact patients.

We want to gather data from research volunteers that will help pave the way to better treatments in the future.

The SMARTER-CM study involves:

  • Collecting blood samples to allow us to do genetic analysis
  • Following participants progress by looking at their health records to learn how their hearts and overall health do over time.

We want to maximise our chances of uncovering vital clues that will help us to better understand cardiomyopathy and we think the best way to do this is by pooling resources with other expert research teams. We will work with leading scientists in the USA, Europe and other parts of the world, who are working with similar groups of patients to accelerate the search for innovative treatments.

Protecting your privacy

We will never share names, addresses or other identifying details with other researchers. We give everyone a unique Study IDs to share information in a safe, de-identified way. Imperial College London will fully ensure that any data sharing agreements meet their strictest requirements.
