Trust expert advises on new children’s asthma toolkit

A new online asthma toolkit has been launched in London to help provide the best care for children and young people with asthma. The toolkit has sections aimed at:

  • hospital and community clinicians
  • commissioners
  • pharmacists
  • GPs
  • schools
  • parents and carers.

Trust consultant Dr Louise Fleming, who is an expert in problematic severe asthma, contributed to the development of the toolkit, which has been created by Healthy London Partnership.

The toolkit aims to ensure all those supporting children and young people with asthma have easy access to all the practical resources and information they need to improve care. As well as practical downloadable tools and advice, including job descriptions and service specifications, it includes examples of best practice in children’s asthma care across London.

The Trust sees children from all over England at Royal Brompton’s specialist asthma clinics where assessments are undertaken by a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, specialist nurses, psychologists and physiotherapists.

Dr Fleming says, “It’s really important that we work in partnership with parents, schools, GPs and other hospitals to improve the standard of care for children with asthma.

"This tool kit enables examples of best practice to be shared across sectors and is a valuable resource for all those involved in the care of children with asthma.”
