Gas mains replacement work

From May to September 2017, National Grid is preparing to replace and upgrade the old metal gas main along Fulham Road with new pipes made of more durable material. The first section to be replaced is from 15 Gunter Grove, past Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, to the east junction with Beaufort Street.

During this time, the westbound lane of Fulham Road between Beaufort Street and Gunter Grove will be closed for certain periods. Where possible, temporary traffic signals will be used to minimise the time and extent of the road closure.

It’s likely there will be significant disruption in the area so it’s important to allow more time for journeys, particularly if you travel by bus from Clapham Junction along Fulham Road. Check Transport for London’s website for more information.

The second phase of the gas mains replacement work, from the eastbound junction of Beaufort Street to Brompton Road, begins in May 2018. This will affect the road directly outside Fulham Wing. Contingency plans are being drawn up to minimise disruption to the daily running of the hospital.
