Biography
Peter took up the post of divisional lead nurse/associate general manager of the heart division at Harefield Hospital in early 2016, having held the post of interim general manager for the previous year.
Peter first joined the Trust in 1996, taking up the post of senior staff nurse in the Intensive Therapy Unit at Harefield Hospital. Since then his roles have included charge nurse, educator, resuscitation officer, critical care matron and service manager.
Peter became a registered nurse in 1988 at West Middlesex University Hospital and later gained BSc (Hons) and MSc qualifications at Thames Valley University and Open University respectively.
Throughout his career, Peter has completed a number of additional qualifications, including:
- advanced life support instructor
- paediatric advanced life support
- cardiac advanced life support instructor

clinical courses/modules in haemofiltration, critical care, advanced life support (ALS), paediatric ALS

management/leadership: leading healthcare improvements (Open University), researching and evaluating healthcare practice (Open University), PRINCE2 practitioner course

teaching and assessing: further education teachers’ certificate, ALS instructor course.
Other interests
On top of his clinical and managerial work at Royal Brompton Hospital, Peter has a number of other interests.
Among other things, he is a panel member at a local university’s fitness to practice panel and he advises the National Society for Epilepsy on resuscitation-related policies and training.
He has presented oral and poster presentations at a range of national and international conferences. These include:
- the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine
- the European Resuscitation Council Congress
- the British Association of Critical Care Nurses Conference.
Subjects he has presented on include:
- therapeutic hypothermia
- sunshine therapy
- MDT nurse role
- reducing sickness absence
- intentional rounding.
Peter is a faculty member on the Trust’s ALS and ECG courses.
Peter enjoys sports, including cycling, running and tennis. He also volunteers as a marshal at athletics and cross country events.
