A new podcast series, 'More than a Hospital', launched by Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, tells the stories of the people who make the hospitals so world-renowned.

The first episode features an interview with the internationally recognised transplant pioneer, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, on the 40th anniversary of the UK’s first combined heart and lung transplant which Professor Yacoub performed at Harefield Hospital in 1983.

Host Oli Lewington, who himself received a double lung transplant at Harefield in November 2007, is a digital storyteller who previously worked in the charity sector and authored a book detailing his experience waiting for an organ transplant.

Oli said: “I am so grateful this new podcast series is opening up opportunities to meet all kinds of people with incredible, powerful and inspiring stories.

“Meeting the extraordinary and humble Professor Yacoub for the first episode was a genuine honour. It’s not often you get to meet a man whose work literally transformed your life!

“I am really excited to have been asked to host the podcast and bring listeners along as I meet some amazing people with remarkable lives.”

‘More than a hospital’ will showcase the people who make the hospitals so special, from staff and patients to volunteers and visitors, and is available now on Acast, Spotify and Apple.
