Profile summary

Dr James Ware is an honorary consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and a clinical senior lecturer in genomic medicine at Imperial College London.

Areas of expertise

Dr Ware's primary expertise is in cardiovascular genetics. His clinical interests focus on the management of inherited cardiac conditions (ICCs) – particularly cardiomyopathies and channelopathies – and the prevention of sudden cardiac death.

Research

As a researcher, Dr Ware studies ICCs, the clinical interpretation of genomes and genetic variation more broadly, and the application of genome-stratified medicine. He is closely involved with the Clinical Genome Resource (cardiovascular domain expert panel) and Genomics England (GeCIP cardiovascular domain), alongside other projects.

Dr Ware's research group spans the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Royal Brompton Hospital cardiovascular biomedical research unit (cBRU) where he is associate theme lead for genetics, the National Heart & Lung Institute, and the Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Sciences Unit at Imperial College London. Research carried out in his early career has resulted in national and international prizes, including from the British Cardiovascular Society, the Heart Rhythm Society and the Royal Society of Medicine.
