The research development team provides Trust staff with support throughout the research grant process. We can assist with all aspects of a research grant or fellowship proposal from inception to submission, including costing and project management of proposals.
If you would like to discuss an idea or upcoming application, then please contact Jayne Alderson 020 7352 8121 ext 2107.
Details of forthcoming calls for proposals and deadlines for applications from major UK agencies (e.g. NIHR, MRC, BHF) are circulated regularly to Trust staff.
Additionally, we have a research funding opportunities calendar which displays information on all relevant funding competitions throughout the year from a variety of major UK and EU-based funding bodies. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like access to this outlook calendar.
Developing a proposal
Once you have a proposal in development it is important to consider:
The team of people you will work with (expertise and current capacity)
The costs associated with the work
The statistical aspects of the work (advice is available from the Trust statistician)
Whether you will need further support from a dedicated clinical trials unit
Ensure you are familiar with the remit of the funding scheme you are applying to, any guidance documents provided and the selection criteria.
Additional advice on design and methodology issues in the preparation of research applications is provided by the NIHR Research Design Service. For studies regulated by the MHRA, the Trust research governance and regulatory compliance manager, Ira Jakupovic, is available to assist with protocol development.
All applications for external research funding, including outline and preliminary applications, must be approved by the research office prior to submission. We require a minimum of one week to review and authorise submissions.
